Hi there. Hello. I flew to East London last night to visit my good mate Nikita Robb. I woke up with a banging head after a big jol at Buc’s last night. Good to catch up. Dance floor madness. I may post pics. Or not.
Woke up early and drove to Port Alfred to check out the 2010 Oakley Pro Junior. Click the pic for the official event site.
Was awesome to catch up with the Oakley South Africa crew and also to see all the grommies surfing in the event. I don’t get to see the junior girls and boys surf very often and I was stoked with the standard of surfing. Good stuff. Very good stuff. The waves at the comp site looked FUNFUNFUN, 3-5ft clean and running along the sand bar. I would love to have been out there. Next time. I filmed Nikita, Alice and Bianca freesurfing at West Pier, the waves weren’t great that side of the pier BUT we got some HILARIOUS wipeout footage (Nikita never disappoints when it comes to wipeouts) and I will chuck the video up on the site soon. Also have to mention that I had a double thick large FRIESLANDS milkshake today. Stunning. Also going to have one tomorrow. And one on Sunday.

My friend Lauren Ashman draws quite well. She also lives right down the road from me. She has a fantastic view of Table Mountain from her balcony. She scribbled on one of my new boards and I’m very stoked with how it turned out. Heads will roll.
She also made these on her sexy Imac. I really like them. I think they should be on Skate/Snow/Wake Decks. -

Here are some pics from the other day….. Board scribbles outside my garage. Let me set the scene – warm, 25 Degrees. Saturday. Presets playing from NP200. Posca pens and spray paint.

Here is a press release/interview I did for the Mr Price Pro. I’m alright with it. No pressure. I decided to post it up here cos of the bit about the Smith family being so hospitable and amazing to me over the years. You guys rock, Thank you. Check out their backpackers – The Secret Spot Surf Camp.
“Stacey Guy’s plans and preparations for 2010 may have suffered an early setback when she fractured her ankle in February, but her determination, dedication and desire to return to action ahead of the Mr Price Pro Ballito has inspired a timely recovery.
Since the injury, the talented Team Red surfer has resolutely thrown herself into a training and rehabilitation programme as she looks to return to full fitness ahead of the fast-approaching Mr Price Pro Ballito.
Expected to return to the water in early May, Guy should have a good six or seven weeks of preparation under the belt by the time the 6A PST Mr Price Pro Women’s event kicks-off from July 2-4. The women’s event along with the 6A Pro Junior event precedes the 5-Star rated Men’s World Tour event from July 5-11.
“I’ve been doing some training recently to strengthen my ankle so I have been bike riding, SUP’ing and swimming a little,” 25-year-old Guy explained. “I haven’t really trained much in the past but have been forced to since my injury… I’m determined to get fit and start surfing at 100% again.”
Last year, the Mr Price Pro Ballito women’s event was cancelled for the first time in this history of the competition as a result of gigantic swells, and Guy said it was a prime example of what mother nature could throw at you.
“I’ve been going to Ballito for around 10 years now, and that’s the biggest I have ever seen the swell get – it was huge and out of control. You never really know what to expect in surfing, it’s up to the ocean and mother nature, and you just have to deal with whatever the ocean throws at you.”
However, as a host of international stars battle it out in the 6A women’s event – which is the biggest on the domestic circuit – Guy will undoubtedly be looking to take advantage of her familiarity with the Ballito surf spots.
Despite hailing from Cape Town, the small North Coast town is a “second home” to Guy, and a place she says she just loves to visit.
“My best mate, Tammy-lee Smith, is a Ballito local and we have been surfing together for years. Her family home is like my second home. They have been so hospitable over the years and have also had to put up with a bit of mischief from all of us. I enjoy the waves up there and also the small town vibe. It’s cool and really I like it. It’s one of my happy places.”
Indeed, she will certainly be hoping it is also a happy place for her on July 4 when the women’s event comes to an end, as a good result would certainly cap off an incredible comeback after her February 7 mishap.”
Cute.

I have had a huge crush on Senyol’s work for years. I think the first time I saw his stuff was on a skateboard deck in Blunt Magazine. Years back. Many many years. I’m sure that I still have that copy of Bluntmag. In a box. In my mommy’s garage. Along with piles and piles of old surf mags. One day I’m actually going to post a pic of the hundreds of surfmags that I own. It’s silly. I can’t bring myself to get rid of them, I love them.

what is surfing ?
“Surfing is a water sport in which athletes ride breaking waves into shore on a piece of specialized equipment called a surfboard. The sport has spawned a number of offshoots, including wake boarding, skim boarding, skateboarding, and windsurfing, among others. In addition to being a dynamic sport which can be practiced by people at all levels of ability, surfing is also associated with a specific surfing subculture which some people aim to emulate. California, Hawaii, and Australia are particularly associated with surfing, but good surf spots can be found all over the world, from the coast of Africa to the beaches of Japan.”
OH? So now you know huh?
Time to get all arty and weird (because I can).

Decided to order one rounded pin. I used to always ride RP’s but stopped a few years back. I’m not sure why. Tasha says it’s cos 5 years ago all the cool kids were riding squashes and I wanted to be cool. hmm. I like the way squashes feel. But lets see how I like the RP again.

Shame hey. I’m sitting looking at the most amazing sunset ever. Not crap. I’m on a farm. Quiet. Rad. Sunday chilling with an Amstel and a roast. Kiff. Had a quick surf today, stood one one little left and then pulled off. Caught a few little straighthanders. Taking it slow. Getting back in the groove.
Pics below go like this – Kiff/Kiff/bloody NOT kiff.

Just made it. Kiff
