Oakley South Africa Announces Their O.C.A.M.P. Weekend
This weekend sees Oakley South Africa present their O.C.A.M.P team weekend around the beaches and waves of St Francis. The Oakley team riders who are going to be present at this team training camp consists of the cream of South African competitive surfing in Royden Bryson, Davey Weare, Tammy-Lee Smith, Stacey Guy, Greg Emslie, Lungani Memani, Shaun Joubert and Matt McGillivray.
The camp was the brainchild of World Tour veteran campaigner Greg Emslie, who has recently retired from full-time competitive surfing.
“This camp has been two years in the making,” said Oakley Team Manager Emslie. “Surfers often don’t get the professional training, coaching and advice that they need to take on the best in the world. I feel that the results our surfers are getting do not reflect on their talent at this point in time. We have some of the best surfers in the world on our Oakley Africa Team,” continued Greg. “They are capable of beating absolutely anybody, and our camp will help them to achieve the greatness they deserve in 2010.”
The weekend program will consist of Health and Fitness Training with Lawrence van Lingen. Lawrence is a chiropracter, a sports-specific trainer and a professional triathlete, with a background in surfing. He will be helping the surfers with their fitness, training and stretching techniques. There will also be life coaching by Jacqui O’Bree, as well as surf training by the legendary Graham Hynes. There will obviously be loads of surf sessions going down, and all of the sessions will be videoed to assist in the coaching element of the weekend as well.
The Oakley athletes are obviously completely stoked with the opportunity given to them. “I hope to work on the changes I need in order to improve my surfing,” said top professional surfer and Oakley Team Rider Davey Weare from Durban. “I’m sure that with the help of Hynsie and Greg, as well as getting filmed and ctiticised, I’ll be able to leave the camp closer to how I want to see myself competing and surfing.”
With good conditions predicted for the weekend, it looks like the surfers are going to all get lucky and score some Eastern Cape bombs. If you happen to be in the area and see a bunch of guys doing some big boosts with O’s on their boards, come over and say hello, and watch some of the best surfers in the world pushing their surfing as hard as they can. If you’re not in the area, keep your eyes out for the weekend’s materail filtering out through various media outlets.
